Summary of proposal: The restriction of access to the commercial port to manage an established health and safety risk via the installation of a fence across the hardstand between the petrol tanks/boat ramp, and the Fiordland Lobster Company building and ‘Whitehouse’. The purpose of this fence is to manage access to the working port area of Deepwater Basin to prevent accidents occurring due to the commercial activities occurring from this area.

2021/08/04 : Further to the fisheries sustainability update in our July 2021 newsletter, we are pleased to release a Special Edition newsletter on the Fisheries Survey and a copy of the Fisheries Survey results for your reference.

We have been busy evaluating the survey results alongside the feedback from face-to-face hui (Tangata Tiaki, ACV operators, independent fishers) and the available fisheries science data. This process is helping us to identify and describe the key fisheries issues for the FMA, with a horizon well beyond the next 20 years.  The Guardians’ vision for the future of the FMA and the central philosophies established back in the 1990s are proving to be more relevant than ever and are keeping us focused. We will provide advice and recommendations to the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries, Hon. David Parker in the coming months, and will meet with him in November to discuss.

We appreciate the contribution you’ve already made to this work and welcome any further thoughts and feedback you may have in response to the survey results.
