THE FIORDLAND RECREATION AND CONSERVATION TRUST

Fiordland Recreation and Conservation Trust

The Fiordland Recreation and Conservation Trust (FRCT) was established in 2018 after having long
standing concerns regarding recreational users representation on issues that affect them in Fiordland.
It has been difficult for individuals and recreational clubs to be heard and represented on the variety of issues that directly impact them when in the Fiordland area. Likewise, its been difficult for regulatory bodies to identify and communicate with individuals and clubs due to the wide distribution and numbers involved.

The FRCT has primarily been set up to be the representative body of all recreational users of Fiordland. Having one organization with one contact point, that has a mandate of support from the recreation sector, would allow better communication and information sharing between relevant bodies.

Our Mission

Without limiting the generality of clause General purposes, the primary charitable/philanthropic purposes of the Trust are:

1. To encourage and support recreation activities, promote best boating and fishing practices, facilitate access to all public areas throughout the Fiordland National Park and associated coastline and Fiords.

2. To assist in the establishment and maintenance of recreation facilities, including huts, camps and tracks and boating facilities in the Fiordland
National Park and associated coastline and Fiords.

3. To assist in conservation, pest control and environmental research in the
Fiordland National Park and associated coastline and Fiords.
4. To engage, promote and assist in any manner (directly or indirectly) any organisation, person or persons engaged in any outdoor education and
recreation activity in the Fiordland National Park and associated coastline and Fiords, being a charitable activity as approved by the Commissioner of
Inland Revenue;

5. Any other charitable/philanthropic purposes related to these objects that the Trustees deem desirable.

The FRCT has identified three areas of concern that they are currently working on.

  1. Parking for recreational vehicles and boat trailers in Deep water basin
  2. The need for an upgrade to the boat ramp in Deep water Basin
  3. Retaining and upgrading the “White House” building in Deep Water Basin
